Oklahoma Youth Expo Celebrates 100th Birthday by Selling the Grand Champion Barrow for $50,500 The 2015 Oklahoma Youth Expo Sale of Champions saw a record level of support as the show celebrated its centennial year of existence. Originally started in 1915 by the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce in 1915, the 100th annual renewal of a market animal show in Oklahoma City recorded $1.25 million dollars in premium sales for the 211 animals that were the cream of the crop in the four species shown during the course of the week leading up to the auction. Those dollars were on top of market value of the animals in this premium sale.

The second animal in the sale- the Grand Champion Market Barrow, was sold at a record price of $50,500. The best market hog of the 2015 show, the Champion Hampshire Barrow, was shown by Garrison Straka of the Canadian County 4-H Club. The bid of $50,500 came from the family of Tom Gilliam as they paid the most that any individual or family has ever paid for a single animal in the history of the show. The excitement of the 100th Birthday of the OYE caused a substantial jump in the sale price of the Grand Champion Barrow, which sold for $17,500 in 2014.

The Reserve Grand Champion Market Barrow was shown by Hunter McKinnon of Lone Grove FFA for $25,000 and was purchased by a group of supporters- including Byford GMC, Blue and Gold Sausage, Oklahoma Pork Council and the Choctaw Nation.

The Bronze Medallion Market Hog was brought into the ring by its owner, Kate Jackson of Mountain View-Gotebo 4-H- and it sold for $13,500. The buyers on the Bronze Medallion Barrow were the CSKT Trailers(Formerly Central State Trailers), Touchstone Energy and First Liberty.
