Nobody wants to be short corn ahead of today's report- so corn hits ten year highs!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Corn futures soared to ten year highs yesterday morning at the Chicago Board of Trade- then some profit taking trimmed the gains just a bit as traders prepare for the USDA November Crop Production numbers that will be out at 7:30 am central time this morning.
The experts think that the US Soybean crop will be a little larger in November than the US guesstimate in October- while the corn crop is expected to shrink. The average trade production guess for soybeans is 3.24 billion bushels, while the corn guess is 10.838 billion bushels versus the 10.9 billion bushel estimate seen in October.
We will have a recap of the crop production numbers if you want to hear the review by clicking here and then clicking on the top story under the "Top Agricultural News" section of our front page. We will have an audio recap of the numbers there by mid morning.
Memorial planned for next Wednesday for Justin Whitefield
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The web site of the Oklahoma Youth Expo has a tremendous tribute to Justin Whitefield, who was the Executive Director of the Oklahoma Youth Expo. Justin died in a plane crash this past weekend and the Expo Staff, as well as many other groups that Justin was involved with, continue to deal with this sudden accident.

There will be no public funeral service per se- but plans have been made for a memorial service that will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. It will begin with a reception at 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Justin Whitefield Junior Livestock Memorial Fund for the pursuit of scholarship and advancement of youth. You may contact the Bank of Western Oklahoma at (580) 225-3434 to contribute.

If you would like to read some of the comments regarding Justin on the Oklahoma Youth Expo site- click below for that page.

Mason Mungle of OFU says he likes the chances of getting a farm bill extension
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While the Oklahoma Farmers Union has prided itself on being a true middle ground farm organization, the National Farmers Union has always been considered a more "left of center" organization. So, as you might imagine, Tom Buis and his staff at NFU headquarters in Washington have an extra spring in their step after the victory Tuesday by Democrats in seizing the majority of the US House, and in all likelihood, the US Senate for the next two years.
Oklahoma Farmers Union lobbyist Mason Mungle seems pleased with the results as well, and is hoping that the Democrats will make Ag Disaster Aid one of their priorities in both the Lame Duck session where the Republicans still rule, and then into the early days of 2007 when they take control. Mungle also thinks that Democrats will not try to write new farm policy immediately, but are leaning towards a farm bill extension, which is something both Farmers Union as well as the larger American Farm Bureau both have called for.
You can hear some of the Mason's comments about these issues, as well as what he sees as early priorities for OFU at the State Capitol as we approach the 2007 Legislative Session.
Tulsa Farm Show just a month away-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the things that we are especially excited about when it comes to the 2006 Tulsa Farm Show is the opportunity to get involved with the Livestock Handling Skills Competition set for Friday morning during the show. The Oklahoma Livestock Handling Skills Competition and Scholarship awards is sponsored by Oklahoma Farmers Union. Before the event at the show, the contestants will be hosted at a breakfast by Tulsa New Holland, Farm Credit Services of East Central Oklahoma and the Radio Oklahoma Network.

The Ten FFA Chapters that will have teams involved in the 2006 event include Oktaha, Pawnee, Crescent, Wakita, Dickson, Perkins Tryon, Idabel, Haworth, Ninnekah and Tipton. It should be a dandy of a contest.

The Tulsa Farm Show happens December 7th through the 9th at Expo Square in Tulsa- admission and parking have always been free at this event and they continue to be free once again here in 2006.

Wheat Growers plan Saturday meeting in Oklahoma City- December 9th.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association annual convention will be held on December 9, 2006 at the Express Event Center (8512 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City). Start time that morning will be 10 am.
Speakers confirmed at this time include Dr. Jeff Edwards OSU Small Grains Specialist, Dr Randy Taylor OSU Extension Engineer, and Jeanne Schneider USDA Meteorologist. Mark Hodges Executive Director Oklahoma Wheat Commission will give a report on the work of the Wheat Commission. Other reports will come from U.S. Wheat Associates and the National Association of Wheat Growers. OWGA President and member of the NAWG Domestic Policy Committee Jeff Krehbiel will present NAWG’s proposal for the next Food Security Act. The Domestic Policy spent a year working on this proposal.
Congressman Frank Lucas has also been invited to speak to the growers group. OWGA will also take time that day to review their policy positions and have elections. If you want more information on their upcoming meeting- contact their Executive Director Tim Bartram at 580-234-3464.
11th Annual World Championship Ranch Rodeo starts tonight in Amarillo
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three ranches from Oklahoma will be among those competing for bragging rights starting this evening at the Amarillo Civic Center in downtown Amarillo at the 11th annual World Championship Ranch Rodeo. There will be four sessions, tonight, Friday and Saturday evenings as well as a Sunday matinee that will determine the winners.

Drummond Ranch of Pawhuska will represent the OCA this week at the World Championship of Ranch Rodeos this week. Two other Oklahoma ranches have also qualified for the event, the A Bar Ranch of Claremore and the Sooner J Ranch and Bricker Livestock of Rush Springs.

They have a whole big set of events, besides just the Ranch Rodeo events themselves. A couple of trade shows will be up and running- they have a Rodeo Clown running a mini rodeo for children and a lot more.

Mexico now has passed "Pre-BSE" U.S. beef purchase levels and moving higher!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That's a good news story that has come out of the US Meat Export Federation Strategic Planning and Marketing Conference in recent days in Cancun. NCBA Executive Director Terry Stokes says we actually will see Mexico exceed a billion dollars this year!
You can hear Terry's comments on the Mexican market and how it can continue to grow in the years ahead by clicking below and listening to today's Beef Buzz from the Radio Oklahoma Network!
