Oklahoma Pork Producers Will Gather in Norman on February 27

The Oklahoma Pork Congress is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27, at the Embassy Suites Norman Hotel and Conference Center in Norman, Okla. More than 150 pork producers, allied industry members and guests will meet for updates, programs, lunch, awards banquet, and business meeting as well as silent and live auctions.
The day will begin at 10 a.m. with an update from the National Pork Producers Council and the National Pork Board. After the national updates about the industry. An update and discussion with Dr. Clint Rusk, Animal Science Department Head at Oklahoma State University comes next. In addition, a discussion about pain mitigation research will take place with Dr. Michelle Calvo-Lorenzo and Justin Lyle.
During lunch, Class III of the okPORK Youth Leadership Camp plans to give a presentation about their travels through the state learning about the Oklahoma pork industry. The camp participants plan to spend the day helping with Pork Congress activities and talking with members about their experiences.
Following lunch, okPORK Executive Director Roy Lee Lindsey will provide an update for all members. Directly following the okPORK update McSpadden & Associates will lead attendees through a discussion on the current legislative session and the effect it could have on Oklahoma's pork industry. The okPORK membership also will hold its annual business meeting and elect members to the okPORK Board of Directors.
At 4 p.m. the keynote speech is scheduled to begin. Dino Giacomazzi is a dairy farmer from California who will present "What's Your Kodak Moment." He is a promoter of sustainable dairy farming practices and was the 2012 Leopold Conservation Award recipient for California. Dino is a dairy activist, social media advocate and technology coach. The evening will begin with a reception during which attendees will have the opportunity to raise funds through the okPORK silent auction. The Awards Banquet will begin at 6:15 p.m. During the banquet Betty Baker will be posthumously inducted into the okPORK Hall of Fame and Joe Neal Hampton will receive okPORK's Distinguished Service Award. In addition, okPORK plans to honor Rep. Lee Denney as the 2015 Outstanding Legislator and Randy Byford as the 2015 Ambassador. The evening will end with okPORK auctioning off large dinners, an OKC Thunder basketball package and much more.
