Oklahoma Cattlemen Promise a Close Review of Governor Fallin's State of State Revenue Proposals and More

Following Governor Mary Fallin's State of the State message to the Oklahoma Legislature on Monday afternoon, the Executive Vice President of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, Michael Kelsey supplied the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network with the following statement in reaction to her remarks:
"Cattlemen are sure appreciative of the Governor's 'can-do' attitude she expressed today in her State of the State Address. Cattlemen always approach hard issues with a positive attitude. That said, the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association will be watching closely some of the Governor's proposals. Her proposal to look at all sales tax exemptions could adversely affect cattle producers as well as her ideas regarding ad valorem taxes. OCA will especially watch her ideas to reduce penalties for criminals. Cattle theft has been on the increase for several years. Oklahoma should have harsher penalties for thieves who destroy family farmers when they steal cattle. OCA will be actively involved in this legislative session and we hope to work with the Governor and Legislators to continue to make Oklahoma the sweet spot for beef cattle production."
