Feeder Cattle Auction for 03/21/16

Compared to last week, feeder steers weighing under 550 lbs sold steady, with 550-600 lbs selling steady to 5.00 lower, 600-800 lb steers traded steady to 2.00 lower with yearling steers over 800 lbs having the best comparison on 850-900 lbs trading 2.00-5.00 lower. Feeder heifers weighing 400-600 lbs sold mostly steady to 5.00 lower, with instances 8.00 lower on the 5 weights, 600-800 lbs sold mostly steady with spots 2.00 lower on the 600-650 lb heifers. Demand remains good on calves going to grass, supply moderate. Cattle on Feed Report was released last Friday afternoon with March 1st at 101 percent, Placements at 110 percent and Marketings at 105 percent all coming in a little above industry estimates. This pressured cattle futures lower to start the week with boxed-beef also losing ground the past two trading sessions. The feeder supply included 58 percent steers, 42 percent heifers and 43 percent feeders weighing over 600 lbs.
