Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 04/25/2016

Actual Receipts: 8,416   Last Monday: 5,659   Year Ago Monday: 6,280

   Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 1.00-4.00 lower.   Steer and heifer calves steady to 3.00 lower. Stocker cattle lightly tested with last week with some cattle selling sharply higher than a week ago. Demand moderate to good and definitely improved from the open. Cattle buyers were a little uneasy after another week of sharply lower cattle futures and sharp declines in cash slaughter cattle prices. Last Friday's Cattle on Feed report showed some positive with a slightly lower placement number than expected. Cattle futures closed higher today and stayed on the plus side since the open. Quality average to attractive on feeders with several heavy weight cattle available. Supply also includes several un-weaned or short weaned calves and these are selling to limited demand. Supply included 77 percent over 600 lbs; 31 percent heifers.
