Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 04/18/2016

Actual Receipts: 5,659   Last Monday: 7,947   Year Ago Monday: 5,419

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 5.00-12.00 lower. Steer and heifer calves not well tested, but a definite lower undertone is noted. Quality plain to average, few attractive but conditions not as attractive. Many cattle carrying mud and also in fleshy conditions. Cattle futures fell the limit for Feeders and down hard for Live cattle today. Many are scratching their head as to why. Beef prices last week gained 10.00 and cash slaughter cattle held mostly steady with fairly good movement. On a positive note, the state did see some nice widespread rains over the weekend with many reporting at least 2 inches and spots much more. Pastures should be greening up nicely when warmer weather arrives later in the week.
