Feeder Cattle Auction for 5/23/16

Receipts: 5808    Week Ago: 4670    Year Ago: 0

Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold weak to 5.00 lower, spots 5.00 to 8.00 lower, mostly on 500-600 lb cattle. Most weights and classes of cattle found solid bottom side support but were not able to hit last week's top prices. USDA's Cattle on Feed report released last Friday showed larger than expected placements, which was enough fundamental weakness to override the bit of momentum the market had built the past couple weeks. Cattle futures opened sharply lower before locking down at or very near the limit through the close. Supply and demand moderate. Feeder supply consisted of 54 percent steers, 42 percent heifers and 04 percent bulls; 47 percent of all the feeders weighed over 600 lbs.

***Scheduling Note: JRS will be closed next Monday for Memorial Day. Next sale date Monday, June 6.***
