Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 7/25/2016

Receipts: 1,172    Week ago:    2,512    Year ago: 1,100

Compared to last week, no good test on steers under 600 lbs, over 600 lbs firm to 3.00 higher. Heifers (all weights) steady. Receipts were curtailed again due to extreme heat and humidity with slightly cooler temperatures expected the rest of the week. Friday's Cattle on Feed was mildly bullish with placements at 103 percent, 03 percent short of pre-release estimates. That was enough to create an impressive rally Monday in the CME cattle complex, stirring up talk that we've seen the bottom. Locally, the (very) light supply of yearling steers had firm support and certainly could have handled a larger offering. Supply light and demand moderate to good. Feeder supply included 51 percent Steers, 6 percent Holstein Steers, 37 percent Heifers, and 6 percent Bulls. Feeder Supply over 600 lbs was 45 percent.
