Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 9/12/2016

No sale last week due to the Labor Day holiday, compared to two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves under 400 lbs steady to 5.00 lower, calves over 400 lbs 6.00 to 10.00 lower, yearlings unevenly steady to 4.00 lower, however some 600 and 700 lb steers selling higher than the last sale. Feeder cattle trade gain strength during the day as the cattle futures traded on the plus side. Calf health a big concern as night time temperatures become cooler and day time temperatures remain warm. Demand moderate to good for 300 weight calves and yearlings, moderate to light for un-weaned calves, supply moderate. Feeder supply included 46 percent Steers, 2 percent Holstein Steers, 41 percent Heifers, and 11 percent Bulls. Feeder Supply over 600 lbs was 39 percent.
