Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/3/2016

Receipts: 3,511    Week ago:    3,345    Year ago: 3,300

Compared to last week, steers and heifers traded 10.00 to 15.00 lower, although 650-750 lb steers did pick up a little interest midway through the day to finish 5.00-10.00 lower. The local market opened sharply lower and struggled throughout the day to gain much ground, but not many signs of support can be found recently. Feeder cattle prices are under extreme pressure after last week's fed cattle trade hit a new low for 2016. Cattle futures traded up, down and sideways throughout the day, settling with mixed results. Supply moderate and demand moderate to light. Feeder supply included 51 percent Steers, 1 percent Holstein Steers, 38 percent Heifers, and 10 percent Bulls. Feeder Supply over 600 lbs was 52 percent.
