This Week on SUNUP Kim Anderson Weighs the Positives and Negatives of Recent USDA Reports
Thu, 12 Jan 2017 18:45:03 CST
This week on SUNUP - Lyndall Stout is again joined by Oklahoma State University Grain Market Economist Dr. Kim Anderson. During this segment, Dr. Anderson gleans the positives and negatives from several reports released this week by USDA.
"I think we got two negatives and one positive," Anderson remarked, "and I think the positive is going to trump the negative."
According to his analysis of the USDA reports, Anderson says the impacts of the data reported in the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates and the Quarterly Ending Stocks, aside from effecting small potential price increases, are more or less inconsequential.
However, the Winter Wheat Seedings report was much more surprising. Overall, this report does in fact show a significant decrease in acres planted in wheat which rallied market after the release of the report.
While this doe help the outlook for wheat prices, Anderson insists that the major factor that will determine whether or not producers can expect to receive at least a breakeven price for their grain depends on the quality of wheat they produce this year.
"I'm basically optimistic for prices, especially with these less acres. The market needs the test weight, needs protein. I'm looking at $4.25 if we can get some test weight and protein."
You can watch their visit tomorrow or Sunday on SUNUP- but you can hear Kim's comments right now by clicking on the LISTEN BAR below.
