Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 1/16/2017

Receipts: 2,656    Week ago:    7,338    Year ago: 6,300

    ***MID-SESSION/CLOSE***

Compared to last week, steers sold 4.00 to 7.00 lower. Heifers over 600 lbs sold steady to 5.00 lower, with a light test of heifer calves under 600 lbs firm, instances up to 4.00 higher. An ice storm moved into the area late last week, followed by heavy rains over the weekend, resulting in muddy conditions throughout the trade area. Most weights and classes of cattle had very solid bottom side support with the lower prices coming right off the top of the price spreads as a few major players were out of the market. With the futures markets closed Monday and many feedlots and grow yards not terribly interested in processing cattle until the ice/mud situation clears up, the local market lacked a definite direction one way or another. Supply light and demand moderate. Feeder supply included 54 percent Steers, 43 percent Heifers, and 3 percent Bulls. Feeder Supply over 600 lbs was 56 percent.
