CropLife America Hosts Inaugural Events, Signs Letter of Support for EPA Nominee Scott Pruitt

CropLife America Hosts Inaugural Events, Signs Letter of Support for EPA Nominee Scott Pruitt Today, Americans across the nation celebrate the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, and Vice President Michael R. Pence. CropLife America (CLA) looks forward to working with the new administration to develop policies built on sound science that help our nation's farmers access vital and necessary crop protection and biotechnology products. Earlier this week, CLA signed a letter of support for the President's nomination of Scott Pruitt to lead the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The association is hopeful that the EPA will be ready to hear from farmers and will be responsive to their technology needs. On January 19, CLA issued a statement to welcome and support the nomination of Governor Sonny Perdue as Secretary of Agriculture.

"We are eager to begin working with the new administration to address priority issues for farmers and the crop protection and biotechnology industries," stated Jay Vroom, president and CEO of CLA. "The EPA needs to immediately adjust its direction and re-commit to following established policy and best available science. Restoring transparency and predictability to EPA will enable us to resolve industry concerns and get farmers the most advanced and precise products available. We believe that Mr. Pruitt and Governor Perdue, working closely together, will be open to engaging with all stakeholders, including farmers, helping us keep the U.S. food system one of the safest and most advanced in the world."

As part of CLA's 2017 Inaugural Program, CLA held an Inaugural Reception at the Washington Marriott last night and is proud to be hosting an Inauguration Day Brunch today at CLA's Washington, D.C., office for CLA members and allies. Top executives from CLA and CLA member companies will also be attending the Bipartisan Agricultural Inaugural Ball later this evening. To help nurture the next generation of agricultural leaders, CLA is partnering with the National FFA Board to allow six of the 2017 FFA officers to attend CLA inaugural functions.

"CLA is pleased to play a role in the many events welcoming President Trump and Vice President Pence along with their families to Washington, D.C., especially those events that highlight the importance of American agriculture," Vroom continued. "We are ready to begin working with all newly elected officials and appointees as well as those that retained positions to develop the best policies for our nation's farmers. From citrus groves in Florida to potato fields in Washington state and every rural area in-between, our nation's farmers depend on crop protection and biotechnology products, and CLA is ready to work with all levels of government to support the development of this technology."
