Noble Foundation Promotes Better Land Management with Dormant Season Prescribed Burn Seminar

Fri, 06 Jan 2017 14:32:04 CST

Noble Foundation Promotes Better Land Management with Dormant Season Prescribed Burn Seminar Prescribed burning is an effective technique in land resource management, but it must be used in a safe manner.

The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host a Dormant Season Prescribed Burn Field Day to discuss the benefits and proper use of prescribed burning for land management. This workshop, which is open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Noble Foundation Oswalt Road Ranch in Marietta, Oklahoma.

"Most landowners would love to be able to use any of Mother Nature's natural processes at their demand," said Will Moseley, wildlife and fisheries consultant. "Fire comes close; we can apply fire when the weather and other variables fit the prescription outlined in a burn plan. When used correctly, fire is a powerful and often needed process on grasslands and woodlands of the Southern Great Plains."

This workshop will help landowners and others who are interested learn the steps of safely and successfully conducting a prescribed burn. Attendees will learn how to plan a burn and write a prescribed burn plan, the most important aspect of a prescribed burn.

Prescribed burn specialists will break down each part of planning a burn, including goals and objectives, weather, and equipment, through hands-on, in-field demonstrations. Multiple demonstration burns will be conducted throughout the day (weather permitting).

The registration fee is $20, and lunch will be provided. For more information or to preregister, please visit www.noble.org/agevents or call Danielle Pacifico at 580-224-6376.
