DISH Network Drops CBS Programming in Oklahoma as Ongoing Negotiations Continue
Mon, 09 Jan 2017 15:49:37 CST
DISH Network has dropped CBS, CW and MyNetwork programming in Oklahoma, including News 9 (KWTV) and MyNetworkTV (KSBI) in Oklahoma City and News On 6 (KOTV) and Tulsa CW (KQCW) in Tulsa. Griffin Communications, the parent company for News 9, KSBI, News On 6, Tulsa CW and MyNetworkTV, has actively and aggressively been negotiating with DISH but has been unable to come to an agreement prior to the expiration of the contract on Saturday, Dec. 31 at midnight.
"As an Oklahoma-based, family-owned company, we simply want to be fairly compensated for the product we provide DISH customers," said David Griffin, president of Griffin Communications. "The amount we are asking is similar to what other cable and satellite systems are currently paying Griffin Communications. We are so sorry that our viewers are caught in the middle and we appreciate their support. We want nothing more than to continue to provide quality, local and CBS programming for viewers."
All DISH Network CBS programming is affected by this blackout, including "The Big Bang Theory," "NCIS" and the NFL AFC Championship game on Jan. 22. Viewers are encouraged to call 1-855-318-0572 or e-mail DISH at feedback@customermail.dishnetwork.com and tell them to restore News 9, News On 6, KSBI, Tulsa CW and MyNetworkTV programming.
"Funds received from cable and satellite systems are kept in Oklahoma to provide local news, weather and sports in our communities," Griffin said. "We appreciate you watching News 9 and News On 6, and we will update you on our progress as we continue to negotiate in good faith with DISH to avoid further service disruption."
Viewers will always be able to receive News 9, News On 6 and other CBS programming using an antenna - free of charge - or by contacting any other carrier. Viewers are also able to stream local broadcasts live at www.news9.com or www.newson6.com. For more information, please visit www.keepnews9.com or www.keepnewson6.com.
