Oklahoma Farm Bureau Members Play Defense this Legislative Session and Focus on What's Next
Thu, 09 Mar 2017 16:44:36 CST
Oklahoma Farm Bureau wrapped up its leadership conference earlier this week in Oklahoma City. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays was there to speak with OFB's Vice President of Public Policy and Corporate Communications John Collison about the messaging and ideas the organization will be taking to state lawmakers this legislative session. According to Collison, OFB members at this time, are simply asking a lot of questions, trying to get a handle on issues that directly touch rural Oklahoma. You can listen to Hays' interview with Collison about OFB's policy concerns, by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below at the bottom of this story.
"What are we going to do with education? What are going to do with rural health? What are we going to do to improve the lives of rural Oklahoma?" Collison posed. "Those are the kinds of issues we're going to take across the street."
In his perspective, Collison says not much will be accomplished during this legislative session with preoccupation on the budget and tax initiatives. However, he says OFB is beginning talks to regroup the focus of the organization's policy makers to form a voice and a vision going forward, as many basic social issues become higher priority for rural Oklahomans.
"These are issues that we've got to figure out," Collison insisted. "We need to make sure they have a vision and a plan. Our counties need to come up with that plan, that vision for these leaders. Let's help them, help us."
