Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 3/13/2017

Receipts: 6,985    Week ago:    6,997    Year ago: 4,465

Compared to last week, steers under 600 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 higher, over 600 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher, heifers (all weights) steady. Demand good, supply moderate to heavy. Slaughter steers and heifers last traded higher at 125.00 to 127.00, supported by Box Beef prices that were sharply higher last week.   Feeder Cattle futures closed with triple digit gains, lending support to the feeder cattle trade.   ***Note*** Joplin Regional Stockyards donated a steer to be auctioned as a fundraiser for the ranchers that suffer losses due to the recent wild fires in Kansas and Oklahoma. The steer was sold repeatedly as Buyers donated back to re-sell. At last count over $25000 was raised for the worthy cause thanks to the generosity of JRS, Cattle Buyers, Cattle Producers and friends. Feeder supply included 53 percent Steers, 2 percent Holstein Steers, 41 percent Heifers, and 4 percent Bulls. Feeder Supply over 600 lbs was 57 percent.
