Tue, 14 Mar 2017 16:18:28 CDT
This week, minimal smoldering has been observed inside the fires that have spread across Northwest Oklahoma that has claimed the lives of two civilians, destroyed a vast acreage of rangeland, killed thousands of livestock, and has destroyed at least eight Oklahoma homes. Firefighters have made good progress to contain them.
The Kansas portion of Starbuck Fire, which also includes Meade and Comanche counties, is 95 percent contained. The total mileage of containment for all the fires within the NW Oklahoma Complex, including both Kansas and Oklahoma, is 465 miles. Of the total 782,333 acres in flames, 63 percent of the fire complex is reported contained.
Firefighters will continue to patrol all four fires, mop-up hot spots, and improve containment lines. Crews will be on-call to respond to new fires and to support local fire suppression agencies, as needed.
