Trump Signs into Law a Resolution to Roll Back Bureau of Land Management's "Planning 2.0" RuleMon, 27 Mar 2017 18:14:10 CDT
Earlier this afternoon, President Trump signed into law H.J. Res. 44 - the joint resolution disapproving of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s “Planning 2.0” rule.
“NACD has followed the development of Planning 2.0 since its inception, participating in town hall sessions, providing detailed public comments, and submitting letters to both BLM and lawmakers,” said NACD President Brent Van Dyke.“NACD is pleased that President Trump and Congress understand that the BLM should go back to the drawing board to craft a more inclusive planning policy.”
While the BLM promoted Planning 2.0 as a tool to increase local government input in the land management planning process, the rule instead added undue administrative burden on these crucial stakeholders. With Trump’s signature, the BLM planning rule process will revert to the original planning rule procedures.
NACD looks forward to working with BLM in the future development of a planning process rule that both modernizes the planning process and increases the opportunity for local government involvement in development of the plans.
The joint resolution was passed with Congressional Review Act authority. For more information on the CRA, and to read more about NACD’s concerns with Planning 2.0, head to our Newsroom for press releases, letters and comments.
