OSU Day at OYE Promotes Life Lessons Being Learned by Students Through Livestock Exhibition

The Oklahoma Youth Expo hosted faculty and students from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University for OSU Day at the show. At OSU Day, parents and children of all ages can come and interact with booths from different departments within the college to learn about what CASNR has to offer. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Associate Farm Director Carson Horn was there to speak with Dr. Tom Coon , the college's dean and division vice president, about OSU's involvement at OYE. You can listen to Horn's interview with Dr. Coon about OSU's involvement at OYE and what else is happening at CASNR, by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below at the bottom of this story.

"We're here to recruit students, and some of them may be only 8, 9 or 10 years old, but we want them to know OSU is a good place for them to think about going," Coon said. "It's a great opportunity for us to showcase what it is that we do."

However, even if a given student decides to go somewhere other than OSU, Coon says he wants them to know and understand the importance of what that student is doing, showing livestock and being involved in 4H or FFA, and the impact they are having.

"We want these young people to understand what they're learning with these livestock projects, are life skills," he said. "They're learning about science and technology and they're learning how to get along with people and that's going to serve then well wherever they go - but we do want them to come to OSU."
