Senator James Lankford Meets with Secretary of Agriculture Nominee Sonny Perdue

Tue, 04 Apr 2017 16:26:30 CDT

Senator James Lankford Meets with Secretary of Agriculture Nominee Sonny Perdue Senator James Lankford today met with George Ervin “Sonny” Perdue, President Donald Trump’s nominee to be the Secretary of the US Department of Agriculture.

“We need a Secretary of Agriculture in place to help facilitate agriculture policy and relief efforts,” said Lankford. “Our conversation today primarily focused on the wildfires in NW Oklahoma that effected Beaver, Harper, and Woodward Counties. I want to start the conversation now, so that on day one, Secretary Perdue can be prepared to assist Oklahomans with relief. I know Sonny will serve as a great advocate for the agricultural community, and I look forward to his confirmation in the days ahead.”

Agriculture is a significant contributor to Oklahoma’s economy, producing over $8 billion in crops and livestock each year. One in nine Oklahoma exports is an agricultural commodity, including cotton, wheat, beef, and pork. The total value of all agricultural exports from the state is valued at nearly $2 billion.

Perdue served as the Governor of Georgia from 2003-2011.
