Make Plans to Attend OSU's Veggie, Fruit and Ornamental Field Day May 25 to Learn Farming Basics

Make Plans to Attend OSU's Veggie, Fruit and Ornamental Field Day May 25 to Learn Farming Basics For those interested in learning more about crop production, make plans to attend the Perkins Vegetable, Fruit and Ornamentals Field Day.

Slated May 25 at 1 p.m. at the Cimarron Valley Research Station near Perkins, Oklahoma, this field day is geared toward farmers, beginning farmers and vegetable and fruit growers.

Lynn Brandenberger, food crops professor in Oklahoma State University's Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, said this is a great opportunity for growers to come out and see the different variety trials.

"Sometimes people don't have a good grasp on the research aspect of what it takes to be a productive fruit and vegetable grower," Brandenberger said. "This field day is a great way to learn all about different varieties of cabbage, cover crops, sweet corn, lavender, ornamentals, blackberries, other fruits and more."

More and more people are growing fruits and vegetables and taking part in their local community's farmers markets, or are growing for local schools. This field day will help provide beneficial information for everyone who attends. It also is a great opportunity to learn more about research being done at OSU.

The Oklahoma Fruit and Vegetable Association is helping sponsor this informative field day. This event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact OSU's Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at 405-744-5404.
