Allendale Predicts Largest April Placements in Six Years to be Revealed in May Cattle on Feed Report

Allendale Predicts Largest April Placements in Six Years to be Revealed in May Cattle on Feed Report On Friday, May 26th at 2:00 PM CDT, the USDA will release the monthly Cattle on Feed Report. The following are estimates generated by Allendale, Inc. for that report:



March Placements are expected to be 4.6% larger than last year at 1.741 million head. This would be the largest April placement in six years. Cattle feeders are responding to the $126 to $135 rally from the end of March to the end of April. April placements supply the October through January slaughter period.



Allendale anticipates a Marketing total 1.3% larger than April 2016 at 1.922 million. This was the largest April marketing in three years. There was a downward calendar based adjustment this month.



Total Cattle on Feed as of May 1 is 0.2% under last year at 10.765 million. This is lower than the 0.5% year over year increase from April 1.
