ICYMI - Oklahoma Farm Bureau's John Collison Appears as Ron Hays' Guest on 'In the Field'
Tue, 18 Jul 2017 14:38:56 CDT
In case you missed it - John Collison, Oklahoma Farm Bureau vice president of public policy and corporate communications, visited us in studio last week, as Farm Director Ron Hays' guest on our 'In the Field' segment on KWTV News 9.
In our discussion, Collison reviewed this year's legislative session here in Oklahoma. In his opinion, little was accomplished during this session and he says there is a rising sentiment across the state legislature to exploit ad velorum taxes to fund municiple expenses like police, fire and emergency services. He says this threatens farmers, who shoulder most of the ad velorum tax burden, and warns that cities will not stop there. He insists any deviation from the taxes original purpose would only lead to further exploitation, using them to fund schools, teacher salaries, etc.
As OFB gears up for its area conferences this coming August, Collison says he is organizing his thoughts, in order to present his concerns with trends he has observed at the State Capital, for consideration by members.
