Drought Conditions Improve From a Week Ago in Western Oklahoma, With a Stormy Forecast Ahead
Thu, 10 Aug 2017 11:17:54 CDT
Oklahoma's State Climatologist Gary McManus, released the latest Drought Monitor report for the state earlier this week. According to it, the area in Oklahoma designated under moderate drought conditions dropped nearly 5 points from the previous week, now at 13 percent. The area affected by severe drought improved but with nearly no change from a week ago, still at about 3 percent.
The drought affected area is concentrated on the far western border of Oklahoma and an isolated area in the North Central region of the state. These areas are surrounded by land designated as abnormally dry, but conditions there seem to be improving.
McManus attributes the overall improvement in drought conditions with recent rains accumulating already this month about 2.25 inches. McManus says there is more rain in the forecast that could potentially helped to improve conditions even more.
