Oklahoma Beef Council Partners with OBI to Beef-Up the Blood Supply, Join Them Sept. 1, Statewide
Thu, 24 Aug 2017 11:47:29 CDT
It seems like every year, the Oklahoma Blood Institute is always in need of more blood around this time. To help answer the call, the Oklahoma Beef Council has stepped again this year, like it has done for so long in the past, to host a blood drive benefitting OBI.
Heather Buckmaster, the Beef Council's executive director, met with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays in studio this week to talk about the drive coming up just prior to this Labor Day holiday.
"It's actually something we've been doing for years," she said. "We know right before vacation time periods, like Labor Day or Memorial Day, they have a lack of blood - people just aren't giving as much."
The OBC Blood Drive is scheduled to take place at all nine OBI locations across the state, Friday September 1st from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. As an added incentive to get donors to come out, the OBC will provide all-beef hotdogs to "beef-up" donors' iron. Plus, donors will have their choice of bedlam T-shirts to take home.
This promotion is not only good for OBI, but for Oklahoma's beef producers, too. The Beef Council's involvement reminds the public to consider beef as the centerpiece of their Labor Day grilling. Buckmaster encourages everyone to visit BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com for recipes and information on their favorite beef products, ahead of this popular grilling holiday.
Buckmaster will join Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays for his weekly In the Field segment on KWTV News9 in the Oklahoma City area on Saturday morning at 6:40 a.m. In the meantime, listen in on their complete off-camera conversation about the blood drive, by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below.
