Ethanol Industry Pleased After Vietnamese Government Notifies US that DDGS Imports May Resume

Thu, 07 Sep 2017 15:03:44 CDT

Ethanol Industry Pleased After Vietnamese Government Notifies US that DDGS Imports May Resume Yesterday, the Vietnamese government notified the United States that it will resume imports of American dried distillers grains (DDGs), according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR).

Distillers grains are a coproduct of ethanol that can be used as a healthy, low-cost animal feed. After ethanol production removes the starch from the corn kernel, the remainder (protein, fiber, and oils) is collected and distributed as animal feed.

"We are very pleased that Vietnam has decided to again open their country up to imported American dried distillers grains, as expanding international markets is always positive news for our ethanol producers, supporters, and farmers, especially for this valuable coproduct," Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor said.

"We're also thankful to the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for beginning technical discussions with Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, which allowed this trade relationship to resume."
