Oklahoma Beef Checkoff Vote Complete- Results Expected by the End of Next Week
Thu, 02 Nov 2017 16:01:49 CDT
It will be the latter part of next week before Oklahoma cattle producers will know the results of the State Beef Checkoff Referendum vote that was conducted on Wednesday. The group that was authorized to conduct the referendum, the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, set in place a distinct level of separation between the organization and an outside auditor that was chosen to collect and count and verify the votes. OCA contracted with Double L Consulting in Oklahoma City to conduct the voting process.
OCA released the following statement on Thursday afternoon:
"Thank you to everyone who voted yesterday. An outside auditor, which has been directly receiving the early ballots, will also be receiving the votes from each county extension office. In the coming days, the auditor will be tabulating the results, verifying voter participation and eligibility, and then communicating the results to ODAFF by the end of next week."
After receiving the results, OKlahoma Ag Commissioner Jim Reese will inform the OCA and also release a public statement on the results of the Checkoff Referendum.
If approved by the votes that came in through the mail in process and the day of voting on Wednesday, the collection of the second dollar will commence May first, 2018. It will be a refundable assessment, with the dollar approved by this process to be fully refundable if a request is made within sixty days of the dollar being collected in conjunction with the sale of an animal.
