OKFB Delegation Praise President Trump's Address at 100th Annual Farm Bureau Convention

Mon, 14 Jan 2019 17:45:49 CST

OKFB Delegation Praise President Trump's Address at 100th Annual Farm Bureau Convention On Monday, after the conclusion of President Donald Trump's address to farmers and ranchers during the Closing General Session at the 100th Annual Farm Bureau Convention in New Orleans, Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays caught up with four members of the delegation sent from the Oklahoma Farm Bureau for their reaction to the President's speech. Included in that group offering their reactions were OKFB Board Members Keith Kisling of Alfalfa Co.; Alan Jett of Beaver Co.; Gary Crawley of Pittsburg Co.; and Jim Meek of Okmulgee Co.

Overall, the general consensus among the delegates was largely positive. The group all expressed satisfaction in what Trump had to say and the issues he mentioned. It was repeated by several of them that the President came off transparent, confident and sincere and gave the distinct impression that he truly has kept the interests of American farmers and ranchers at heart.

Below are the reactions from each of these men and their thoughts after hearing President Trump's address. You can listen to their complete remarks by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below at the bottom of the page.

"He's very transparent. I thought it was a great speech. He talked an awful lot about immigration and it's on his mind right now because it's a big issue for him. The big government shutdown - that's also an issue that's on his mind. Trade is my big issue and he really talked quite a bit about how he's trying to open up our markets which will be helpful to us. It's kind of a stymie right now, but it's going to get better he says."
- Keith Kisling, District 7 Director

"My take away would be- he says what I want to hear. It's what he believes, it's what I believe - it's what we believe as farmers and he's not afraid to say it. He doesn't play politics with it. He's not trying to get re-elected. He just is what he is and I appreciate that and I like it. I truly believe he has our best interests at heart and that's a good thing."
- Alan Jett, District 1 Director

"I was very pleased and honored to hear what he had to say. He was upfront with everyone. He didn't hold no punches back. People are walking away very pleased with what's happened here today."
- Gary Crawley, Vice President and District 5 Director

"I think he was much better prepared today. I think he was comfortable with our audience. If you didn't think he was a friend of agriculture before - today you know he's a friend. I was very impressed with his argument for border security. He built a strong case. I really appreciate the work he's done with our legislators on tax issues and regulation reform. I think he's just getting started in that endeavor and with time we're going to see many more good things come from this President."
- Jim Meek, District 9 Director
