Decades of Service At AFR/OFU End for Terry Detrick- Who Looks Forward to the Next Opportunity Coming Around the Bend to Serve Oklahoma Agriculture
Sun, 17 Feb 2019 20:33:51 CST
After serving the American Farmers & Ranchers and Oklahoma Farmers Union for over thirty years, outgoing President Terry Detrick has handed the gavel over to the new President of the farm organization, Scott Blubaugh of Kay County.
After the his final session serving as President, Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays sat down with Terry Detrick and reflected with him about his time in the leadership of the general farm organization, an earlier Presidency as National Association Wheat Growers, his start in farming in the 1980s and how that resulted in his multi decade involvement in the Oklahoma Ag Mediation Program and the Farmer Suicide Hotline that was so needed in the latter part of the 1980s.
Detrick got teary eyed several times as he talked about his passion of helping 4-H and FFA members be all they could be- and how much he has loved serving the members of the AFR/OFU.
Looking ahead- he admits he has already had a few calls about serving in other ways after he recharges his batteries after his last year as the Farm Organization President of the AFR/OFU. He told Hays that "I'm still going to have stay involved in everybody's else's business a little bit just to be around if I can see a need and if there is anything I can do to help." He adds that he "does not intend to allow the investment that has been made in me by the people who have helped make possible for me the last several years of my life- and I will never live long enough to repay the debt- but anything I can do- I hope to be able to have the time now to help others and do that now."
