Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher. Steer and heifer calves steady to 1.00 higher. Quality average with a few big loads of attractive cattle on offer. Demand good. CME Feeder cattle contracts experienced huge gains over last week but lost those gains after settling down mostly triple digits across the board today. Friday's cattle on feed report showed placements and on feed a little higher than last year which was much more than expected. Carcass weights continue to be impacted by the past devastating Winter weather conditions and have consistently been lower than last year. Many feedyards still ready for supplies after the cold weather has subsided for a week. Supply included: 100% Feeder Cattle (47% Steers, 51% Heifers, 2% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 45%.
