OCA Ranch Rodeo Committe Presents Great Big Check to the Oklahoma Children's Hospital
Tue, 12 Mar 2019 22:42:15 CDT
When Tim Drummond isn't tending to his ranch in Northeast Oklahoma, he's helping Oklahoma children in need of medical help. He does this as Chairman of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association's Ranch Rodeo Committee which hosts an invitational rodeo each year to raise funds for the Oklahoma Children's Hospital.
Last weekend Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Associate Farm Director Carson Horn had the opportunity to talk to Drummond before they gave $30,000 in proceeds to the hospital that was raised in 2018 during a timed event at the Lazy E Arena.
Listen as Tim tells Carson how they get the kids from Oklahoma Children's Hospital involved in the event last weekend, and in August, by clicking the LISTEN bar below.
OCA Ranch Rodeo is often affectionately reffered to as "cowboys helping kids."
"I've made it a point to give the hospital more than half of the proceeds of every rodeo we ever put on," Drummond said with pride. "We also pass the boot during the event and last year I think we raised over $10,000 just passing the boot. That's not including the $30,000!"
A great spectator sport, the OCA Ranch Rodeo features 12 historic Oklahoma ranch teams in head to head competition for bruises and bragging rights. The OCA event is comprised of six events depicting real life day-to-day ranching activities. The event also features a trade show, kids dummy roping, and the Champion team at this event represents Oklahoma at the world competition each year.
"We've given over half a million dollars to the children's hospital and we're honored to be able to help them. At the end of the day it's about cowboys helping kids," said Drummond.
Planning for this year is well underway. The 35th annual OCA Ranch Rodeo will take place at the Lazy E Arena on Aug. 23 and 24, 2019. Tickets go on sale in mid-May.
