Oklahoma Youth Expo 2019 Recap for March 23rd- the Day After Edition
Sat, 23 Mar 2019 09:57:28 CDT
The 2019 Oklahoma Youth Expo is in the record books- while the 2019 Grand Champion Steer did not match the six figure price of the 2018 Steer(some unexpected money came in and pushed the 2018 Steer into record territory)- the other Grands were even with a year ago.
The Grand Champion Steer was shown by Cierra Collins of Tillman County 4-H- the second year in a row that the top Steer came from Tillman County- and brought $85,000. A consortium that included the Bank of Western Oklahoma, AFR, Livestock Nutrition Center, McAfee & Taft, Express Ranches, OKC Chamber, BancFirst, LNL Farm Supply, Frazier Bank and the Mavericks bought the Grand Steer, the first animal sold, as usual, in the Sale of Champions.
The Grand Champion Barrow was shown by Madilyn Norvell of Amber Pocasset 4-H- and he sold for $25,000- purchased by Westgate Market Place.
The Grand Champion Market Lamb was shown by Lydia Straka of Yukon FFA- who also had the Grand Champion Lamb two years ago in 2017- this year's lamb sold for $15,000 with the buyers including the State Fair of Oklahoma, CSTK Trailers and OAEC.
Finally- the Grand Champion Market Goat was led into the Sale Ring by Addyson Schneberger of Carnegie 4-H- it also commanded a final bid of $15,000 from the Diamond Hats and McDonalds.
The Resrve Grand Champions sold as follows:
Reserve Grand Steer- Sadie Wynne of Newcastle 4-H- sold for $30,000
Reserve Grand Barrow- Ty Goss of Leedey FFA- sold for $15,000
Reserve Grand Lamb- Kailen Urban of Mountain View Gotebo FFA- sold for $10,000
Reserve Grand Goat- Carson Maloney of Hooker FFA- sold for $10,000
Before we do a complete rundown of the Breed and Division Champions that were in the Grand Drive on Thursday and then in the Sale on Friday- a few other highlights:

When you get all the way up to three people taking pictures during the week- I guess you can say we have had a Photo Team for the 2019 OYE- and I want to give a shout out to Stanley Gaffrey and Carson Horn for helping me snap picture after picture- when everything gets placed into our albums up on Flickr- we will have more than 2,000 photos for you to check out, download and utlize for your personal use. ALL FREE- and a part of what we do in serving you with complete coverage from the OYE- details on our sponsor is down lower- but ITC has sponsored our coverage of both the OYE and National FFA for the last several years- and we REALLY do appreciate them a whole lot. By the way- Stanley's first OYE was this year- he is a Senior at OSU studying Ag Communications and is from Delaware- and had an absoulte blast taking pics over the last week- and he did a great job capturing the excitement and emotion of this world class event.
If you want to take a look at our pics- we have the massive "everything" album for the 2019 OYE- and then we will end up with six smaller sub albums highlighting various aspects of the last ten days or so.
