Pecan Council Partners with Retail Dietitians to Promote American Pecans in Supermarkets
Tue, 23 Apr 2019 20:27:21 CDT
Market research conducted by the American Pecan Council (APC) has confirmed that nutrition is a powerful motivator in purchase decisions. While the APC's marketing efforts have promoted nutrition from the start, it is putting an even greater emphasis on highlighting the nutritional benefits of "The Original Supernut" in 2019 by incorporating nutritional information into its strategic plan. Recently, the APC engaged retail dietitians to promote the power of pecans right where Americans buy their groceries.
To help them tell the pecan story, the APC created The Original Supernut Retail Dietitian Toolkit a suite of tools that includes ideas for in-store activations and social media posts, key messages about pecans, recipe cards, and high-res images and graphics. These resources were designed to give these dietitians a variety of ways to share the pecan's versatility and nutrition with shoppers.
Since launching the program in January, these dieticians have been hard at work promoting pecans through product demonstrations, social media posts and news articles. In all, 50 toolkits have been sent to corporate and local retail dietitians in 17 states across the country and the response to-date has been overwhelmingly positive. Below are some of the testimonials that APC has received.
"Thank you so much for sending it, I am definitely inspired to make some new recipes looking through the RD Toolkit and found the seasonal suggestions great." Carley Baulick, ShopRite in Monroe, NY
"I thought it was very thorough with the variety of recipes, utensils, but most importantly the grocery list!... Thank you again for supporting us in-store Dietitians!" Nikita Grove, ShopRite in Philadelphia, PA
In the first three months of this program, APC has already seen dietitians activate with 23 in-store demonstrations or promotions and anticipate at least nine more in the coming weeks. Additionally, they are showcasing the toolkit and promoting pecans as a nutritious snack and ingredient through social and earned media.
Andrea Luttrell of Springfield, MA wrote an article promoting the Cherry Pecan Energy Bites that appeared in several New England news outlets, including in print in The Republican, the local paper for Springfield, MA. An article by Charlyn Fargo Ware of Springfield, IL featuring a Banana Pecan Cherry Oatmeal recipe was posted to three online news sources, which resulted in more than 1 million impressions
A release from the APC states, "We're excited to continue these partnerships in the coming months, and look forward to seeing even more supermarket dietitians use the toolkits in their stores. With their help, we can show consumers the many benefits of The Original Supernut and move pecans from a once-a-year purchase to a year-round staple and nutrition powerhouse."
