American Farmers & Ranchers Applauds Trade Assistance Package to Farmers Announced by Trump

Thu, 23 May 2019 14:47:38 CDT

American Farmers & Ranchers Applauds Trade Assistance Package to Farmers Announced by Trump American Farmers & Ranchers /Oklahoma Farmers Union President Scott Blubaugh released the following statement applauding the Trade Assistance Package to farmers announced today by the Trump Administration:

"We are pleased the Administration has taken the action it has today in providing payments to family farmers and ranchers to help offset the impact of oversupply and low prices to their commodities as result of trade disruptions. It is certainly a step in the right direction that all covered commodities will receive equitable treatment and we are glad to see the number increased to a higher level at $16 billion. With the Administration using historical data for calculation of payments as suggested by the National Farmers Union should ensure payments will be done in a much more expedited manner. Congress must still act for a long-term solution. Trade adjustment payments will not address a real solution for farmers and ranchers who continue to suffer record economic losses with many going out of business. And, unfortunately the current trade issues will take decades to establish trust as a reliable supplier with trading partners which will further the economic crisis."
