okPORK Goes Into Action to Support Oklahoma's Food Banks and Children in Need This Summer

Tue, 25 Jun 2019 12:35:50 CDT

okPORK Goes Into Action to Support Oklahoma’s Food Banks and Children in Need This Summer The summer months can be a scary time for children in Oklahoma who are food insecure. Through the school year, schools and daycares provide proper nutrition for these kids. But adequate food may not be available when school is not in session.

During the summer months, the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma work hard to provide for hungry kids in Oklahoma and distribute food through various programs. To help both food banks with these efforts, okPORK has launched an Into Action campaign.

"One of Oklahoma's pig farmers' driving values is giving back to our community," said Nikki Snider, okPORK Director of Marketing and Communications. "And this value drives them to be involved with our food banks each year. We are excited to launch our Into Action campaign this summer.

The Into Action campaign consists of on-air announcements and digital banners with Oklahoma public radio stations KGOU, KOSU and KUCO. These announcements will direct listeners to go to www.okpork.org/action and donate to one or both of the food banks in support of their summer kids feeding programs. These announcements will run from June 10 to August 10 and the donation page will remain open until August 31.

There is also information on the Into Action webpage about how to also volunteer time at one of the food banks. The summer months keep regular volunteers busy with travel and other activities so lending a helping hand is an important way to give back along with a monetary donation.

"A state that is thriving in the future depends on feeding all Oklahoma's children properly today," said Snider. "We hope that all Oklahomans who are able will donate their time and money to one of these great food banks."
