In this week’s edition of Checking In on the Beef Checkoff - Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays is joined by Heather Buckmaster, executive director of the Oklahoma Beef Council. During their visit, Buckmaster talked about the OBC’s recent involvement with the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians Summer Convention. Listen to Buckmaster and Hays full conversation by clicking or tapping the LISTEN BAR below at the bottom of the page.
The Oklahoma Beef Council recently sponsored Dr. Donald Layman, a leading protein researcher, for a presentation at the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians Scientific Assembly. His topic focused on the importance of protein in the diet and balancing it with carbs in a healthy way. According to Buckmaster, Dr. Layman’s presentation was very well received based upon the interaction of the physician audience. Additionally, staff also participated in the trade show where they had an opportunity to visit with multiple physicians and provide them with beef checkoff-funded materials that promote beef’s role in a healthy, well-rounded diet.
“This event is part of Oklahoma Beef Council’s efforts to educate health professionals from physicians to dietitians about the science of beef nutrition and the benefits of the nutrients of beef,” Buckmaster said. “Every year, the Oklahoma Beef Council attends multiple conferences and events within the health professional community to provide resources and when possible host speakers on various nutritional topics connected to beef.
