Thu, 07 Nov 2019 20:06:36 CST
Oklahoma Drought conditions remain in place in southwestern Oklahoma and the far western Oklahoma Panhandle. The latest Oklahoma Drought Monitor numbers show slightly more moderate and severe drought than a week ago- 9.4% versus 7.6%- the amount of severe drought(D2) remains less than one percentage point- while the total number of both abnormally dry and drought levels actually declined by a faction- 23.89% this week versus 24.78% a week ago.
Oklahoma is currently about four percentage points less abnormally dry and droughty versus the start of the water year- which is October first. We are drier than a year ago- as just the abnormal dry/drought number at this point in November 2018 was just 7.78%.
The bigger worry on the minds of many that are watching the weather conditions is the frigid conditions that are headed toward Oklahoma and well south of us as well- click or tap here to review what State Climatologist Gary McManus is rporting in the latest Mesonet ticker.
