Lawmakers Raise a Hallelujah Over Word USMCA Deal is Complete

Lawmakers Raise a Hallelujah Over Word USMCA Deal is Complete Several members of Congress have praised the word that an USMCA deal has happened.

Here are a few of those comments:

Today, House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member K. Michael Conaway released the following statement upon news of a deal on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement:

"Today's announcement of a deal on USMCA is news America's farmers and ranchers have been waiting over a year for. I appreciate the work of President Trump and Ambassador Lighthizer in delivering on the promise of an improved trade agreement with Canada and Mexico. I urge Speaker Pelosi to quickly schedule a vote on USMCA."

Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) released the following statement regarding the conclusion of negotiations for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement:
"Today's announcement that negotiations around USMCA have concluded is excellent news for trade in North America. America's farmers and manufacturers have waited far too long for a modernized trade agreement guaranteed to increase agricultural exports and spread economic prosperity across the country."
Lucas continued, "Immediate passage of this monumental agreement not only ensures the best for American trade, it strengthens our negotiation positions for other ongoing trade discussions. As China continues to distort trade relationships across the globe, the United States remains vigilant in protecting fair trade, competition, and free enterprise no matter the trading partner."

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today praised the announcement of a path forward on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which would replace the outdated North American Free Trade Agreement. Inhofe was the only member of the Oklahoma delegation who opposed NAFTA because it harmed American truckers and put U.S. businesses at a disadvantage. Currently, roughly 15,000 jobs in Oklahoma are supported by agricultural exports to Canada and Mexico. That equals nearly $2 billion a year. Read more in his October op-ed in the Oklahoman entitled Point of View: Trump's trade policies benefit Oklahoma business.

"For the first time in decades, we have a president who is willing to put American jobs and workers first," Inhofe said. "President Trump is refreshingly unapologetic in his commitment to American workers and the result is a new NAFTA one that actually promotes free and fair trade. However, since President Trump's announcement of the USMCA trade agreement well over a year ago, Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the House Democrats have chosen to let this important trade agreement collect dust, prohibiting its consideration on the House floor, focusing instead on their ridiculous impeachment obsession. Because of relentless pressure from our farmers, businesses and manufacturers who are counting on the USMCA to open up new markets, the deal can now be swiftly considered in both the House and Senate. I am eager to get this to the president's desk."

Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today issued the following statement regarding the announcement that a deal has been agreed on between House Democrats and President Trump on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):

"The negotiations for USMCA have lasted more than a year. I'm glad that the House has finally agreed to pass USMCA. Oklahomans have been waiting for this day for months. This agreement updates the 25-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and provides manufacturers, agricultural producers, and international businesses a greater ability to trade with our partners. I'm grateful to President Trump for continuing to work toward a solution on behalf of the American people."

Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) released the following statement after it was announced that President Donald Trump and Congress reached official agreement on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

"For months, House Republicans have urged floor action on the trade agreement negotiated by President Trump. While I am delighted that USMCA will soon come to the floor of the House for a vote, it is disappointing that Speaker Pelosi needlessly delayed the process for more than a year," said Cole. "I am eager to vote on the agreement, which strengthens and modernizes the terms of trade with our North American neighbors. I certainly expect swift and bipartisan passage in both chambers of Congress, and I very much look forward to finally releasing the benefits secured by President Trump to millions of American manufacturers, entrepreneurs, farmers and ranchers."

Oklahoma's lone Demcorat in Congress, Representative Kendra Horn likes the agreement: "Today's bipartisan agreement is a good deal for Oklahoma's workers, businesses, and families," said Congresswoman Horn. "Stronger trading relationships with our neighbors mean a stronger economy for our state. That is why I have fought to finalize a free and fair trade agreement every step of the way. In Oklahoma's 5th District, I've heard from workers, families, and businesses about the positive impact this agreement would have for the future of our economy. Until we cross the finish line and this deal is signed into law, I will continue fighting to bring lawmakers from both parties together in support of finalizing the USMCA."
