Kelli Payne with Oklahoma National Stockyards Proud to Host AABB Fundraiser and Pleased with 2019 Final Sales

For the ninth year, the folks at the Oklahoma National Stockyards stopped their final sale of the year and did a special fundraiser for the All American Beef Battalion.

The General Manager of the Oklahoma National Stockyards, Kelli Payne, stopped to talk with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director, Ron Hays to talk about this unique tradition. "Yeah, it's just really a great thing. We really believe in it. The commission firms, the order buyers, and our customers. It's just really nice to stop and give back. One thing that's always been interesting to me in watching this, when the auctioneer starts the introduction, he always has asked the crowd to stand up anyone who has been in service previously. It's really, really heartfelt, and really amazing to see how many of the folks that are actually sitting in the seats have served our country. So they continue on, a lot of veterans who are farmers and ranchers. So it's a way to just give back all the way around."

Annually, this is the largest fundraiser for the All American Beef Battalion that was founded by Bill Broady, so he's always very appreciative of that, Payne says its become a great tradition, "Yes, it's great to see everybody come together and it has become a real tradition for that final sale of the year for us to pause and give thanks. The National family of companies has been wonderful in promoting this, and it's great to reach across the aisle and do work with them on this and helping get the word out. Folks around the state come in and see, I tell you I've got some news crews here today and a representative from the Department of Agriculture and it's just wonderful to have everybody stop and really think about why we're here and what we're doing."

A little over $49,000 was raised at the sale at the Oklahoma National stockyards on Monday for the all American beef Battalion. You can learn more about this group by going to their website- click or tap here.

Beyond the auction, its also been a terrific year for the Oklahoma National Stockyards. Payne agrees, "Yes, sir. It's been fantastic. We had not sold 400,000 head of cattle through this barn since 2013, and we've surpassed. We've had some monster monster runs. Very, very grateful for all of our customers that put their faith in us. The Commission firms really work hard, the order buyers have been very complimentary about the quality of cattle we've had come through here. You know, the cattle industry has had some highs and lows this year, whether it was market or in the Holcolm fire, I mean things just too much rain, not enough rain and stuff that we always kind of go through but it looks like a lot of folks were just really hanging on to some cattle toward the end of the year. We had grass as markets ticked back up, and so it's really great to end the year with a nice run today. We're just so thankful for everyone that puts their faith in us."

The last two Mondays of the year- last week, and then this week have resulted in big runs and the stockyards being full, "Yes, over 10,000 today. Last week, 16,771, I believe, was our final ticket. And even the few weeks before that sold over 15,000. So it's just really been incredible to see the numbers come into town and, and once again, just really appreciate the faith that everybody's put in us. So we're going out with a bang, and we look forward to 2020 as well."
