It's been a good year at the Oklahoma Beef Council with new and expanding programs. Here is our list of "Top Ten" Oklahoma Beef Council programs in no particular order. No order, because they are all important to the whole.
OKC Pro Basketball Star Steven Adams Partners with the Oklahoma Beef Council
A unique partnership with Oklahoma City professional basketball player Steven Adams helped the Oklahoma Beef Council (OBC) energetically kick off 2019 with a digital marketing campaign. In the first video of the series, Adams shared how he loves beef and he "smashes steaks," a phrase that took off in Oklahoma sports media. Going viral, the video achieved more than 700,000+ views in four days and through earned media, the campaign has achieved more than 20 million+ impressions.
Nicely Done, Beef! Beef Checkoff Videos Viewed 19 million+ times
In FY 2019, the Oklahoma Beef Council was thrilled with the success achieved through YouTube advertising achieving more than 19 million video views through two campaigns. In other words, this would be the similar to a television commercial being viewed in its entirety 19 million times (no skipping through commercial). The vibrant videos showcased beef's protein and nutrition, the pleasure found by choosing beef and the people who raise beef with the ultimate goal of inspiring consumers to buy beef.
Oklahoma Program Educate the Next Generation of Health Influencers
The Oklahoma Beef Council has a strong nutrition focus through its programs. In FY 2019, the Oklahoma Beef Council conducted four seminars with university nutrition programs for future dietitians. The objectives with these programs are to provide an opportunity for future dietitians to learn more about the science of beef nutrition, beef hot topics, beef culinary and cattle production. In the current climate, attendees also receive a thorough grounding in beef's sustainability and spend time on a ranch.
Consumer Outreach Face to Face
The Oklahoma Beef Council staff and volunteers exhibited at seven consumer events in 2019 including the Oklahoma City and Tulsa Home and Garden Shows and the Oklahoma City and Tulsa marathon race expos. In total, more than 18,000 recipes brochures and 17,000 beef samples were distributed.
Neighborly Partnerships Inspire Nutrition Adventures
Beef councils from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma hosted a select group of 25 registered dietitians from across the country for a checkoff-funded event emphasizing beef's nutritional profile, culinary versatility, and production methods. Those attending Nutrition Adventure in the Kansas City area in late May were selected for their high involvement on social media and blogs, giving them the ability to influence thousands of consumers.
Building a Generation of Beef Advocates
In a unique effort, pioneered by the Oklahoma Beef Council, more than 1000 Oklahoma FFA students received their Masters of Beef Advocacy certification, a program designed to equip ranchers, farmers and agriculture youth with the tools they need to be advocates for the beef community.
US Beef Around the World
The Oklahoma Beef Council sponsored beef promotions in foodservice and retail groups in Japan and South Korea in 2019. Overall, Oklahoma beef checkoff dollars helped move more than 6 million of US beef. Additionally, the Oklahoma Beef Council supported beef educational efforts through seminars in Angola and China.
Beef Quality Assurance
The Oklahoma Beef Council provided the push and training for 1000+ new Beef Quality Assurance certifications in Oklahoma through online and in-person training.
Healthcare Sponsorships Provide a Focus on Protein
The Oklahoma Beef Council hosted a national speaker at the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians and the Oklahoma Academy of Physician Assistants. In total, more than 175 health care influencers attended the presentation entitled "Optimizing Dietary Protein in a Carbohydrate World."

In 2019, the Oklahoma Beef Council was the lead supporter of the annual "Ag on Rt 66 Road Trip" with the Ag in the Classroom program. The purpose of Oklahoma Ag in the Classroom is to help improve agriculture literacy in Oklahoma's school children. The annual road trip provides teachers the opportunity to improve their own agriculture literacy as well as identify ways to include Ag in the Classroom lesson plans in their classrooms.
