Drought Conditions Now Cover 18% of Oklahoma as we Near the End of 2019

Drought Conditions continue a slow expansion in western parts of Oklahoma, based on the latest Drought Monitor Map that is developed through a partnership between the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Moderate Drought or worse (D1 to D3) now stands at 18% versus 13.85% a week ago and 11% three months ago. There was no drought reported in Oklahoma back at the start of 2019. When you include Abnormally Dry ratings with the Drought Stats- you have 39.1% of the state covered versus 36.1% a week ago.
The worse drought in Oklahoma is D2- Severe Drought and it currently is found in Tillman County in the southwestern corner of Oklahoma- as well as in the westernmost county in the state- Cimarron County. Those conditions represent 3.64% of the state's land mass- and is the same number reported a week ago.
Drought covers areas that has an Estimated Population of 243,637 in Oklahoma.
