Back on the 4th of May, The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture and the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association announced they were joining forces to establish the Oklahoma Beef Packing/Processing Task Force, a joint effort to explore opportunities in the packing/processing sector within the borders of Oklahoma.
Click here for our earlier story that included first details of the task force and our conversation with Michael Kelsey, one of the co- Chairs of the Task Force.
Kelsey has provided us an update on the organization of the Task Force and provides the list of cattle industry players who are on the Task Force. Here's the report from Monday evening via email:
Packer/Processor Update May 18, 2020

The task force is a group of individuals from all sectors of the beef industry.
The mission of the task force is to explore opportunities that can be provided to Oklahoma beef cattle men and women specifically in the area of beef packing/processing.
The task force began with an empty sheet of paper and are looking at any and every idea we can dream or think of.
The task force recognizes this is not an easy task nor is it a quick one. We are committed to the hard questions and for the long haul.
The task force has met twice with another meeting late this week.
The Task Force will be offering our conclusions asking for feedback and input. It is our hope to involve Oklahoma beef cattle producers, marketers and even consumers in this process for a vibrant and transparent process that accomplishes the mission of benefiting and improving the Oklahoma beef cattle industry.
