Latest Oklahoma Fire Situation Report Shows Burn Bans for Cimarron, Texas, Beaver, Dewey and Major Counties

Taking a look at the latest Fire Situation report for July 6 from the Oklahoma Departement of Agriculture, we had Scattered storms over the holiday weekend provided some much needed moisture in some areas while others received little or no rain at all. With high relative humidity present each day, some improvement in the composite fuel moisture index has been realized in advance of a high pressure system setting up later in the week which will likely spur drying of fuels and increasing fire danger.
Today: Moderated fire danger indices will be present across Oklahoma today. Scattered storms continue this morning in counties nearer the Red River and some chance for isolated/scattered rainfall persists across most of the state through the day. Seasonal temperatures, generally light easterly winds and the absence of concerning afternoon relative humidity values will serve to limit carrier fuels availability and potential for problematic fire behavior. Initial attack success probability is very good today given limited fire behavior potential, although it is worth noting that lightning caused ignitions remain possible especially in those areas that have missed out on wetting rains in recent days.
Near-term Outlook: Moderated fire danger is expected to continue through mid-week given some fuel moisture improvement and the lack of elevated fire weather. Fuel moisture improvement realized over the holiday weekend will be subjected to the drying conditions as temperatures increase through the week. Current forecasts indicate most locations in Oklahoma will see high temperatures in excess of 100? this coming weekend. Although no elevated or critical fire weather is currently forecasted, fuel moisture improvement will decline and increasing fire danger is expected.
