Wed, 02 Sep 2020 10:02:33 CDT

Ag in the Classroom--Read An Accurate Ag Book Week - Sept. 8th-11th Oklahoma educators, 4-H groups, and FFA Chapters, it is time for Read an Accurate Ag Book week!! From September 8th-11th, we would ask that you all teach your students about agriculture through reading accurate ag books! Every educator, 4-H group, and FFA Chapter that participates will be entered in a drawing to win a bushel of agricultural books. Join us that week by reading to your own class, having a guest come into your classroom to read, or choosing to participate virtually. This year, we have had many wonderful volunteers who will be reading over Zoom to your classes. Volunteers include Lieutenant Governer Matt Pinnell, Congressmen Frank Lucas, Secretary of Agriculture Blayne Arthur, and so many more! Details on each opportunity to participate are listed below:

Participating by Reading to your own class:

Reading an accurate ag book to your own class is great! In order to qualify to be entered in the drawing for the bushel of books, you will need to register at the link below AND post a picture of you reading on Facebook using hashtags #okagclass and #readagbooks2020 OR if you do not have a Facebook, please email pictures with information (which school, etc) to Audrey.harmon@ag.ok.gov.    **Please make sure the students in your photographs have signed permission forms, on file at the school, allowing their photographs to be shared on social media. If they do not, do not include them in the photograph. Please understand that all photos, even those emailed to Audrey, will be shared on social media.

Participating by having a Guest read to your class OR going into a classroom to read (4-H and FFA groups):

If you are able to have a guest come to your classroom or go into a classroom to read, that is great!

Participating Virtually through our offered Zoom sessions:

Due to Covid, we realize that some teachers may have to be creative with how they participate. We have lined us some wonderful readers that are ready to read to your students through Zoom. When you register using the link in this email, we have a list of dates throughout the week, times, and our volunteer reader. Please sign up for the Zoom sessions you would like to receive links for and participate in. Your students are in for a treat! You can choose to attend one Zoom session or as many as you like! There will also be an opportunity for your class to ask a question to our reader - more details will be explained in the email with the Zoom link. Zoom links will be sent to you the afternoon on the day before your Zoom session. We will track participation on Zoom by asking you to put teacher name and school, leader name and 4-H group, OR teacher name and FFA Chapter name into chat box you will be entered in the drawing for a bushel of books by participating this way also! You must also still register at the link below in order to get links sent for Zoom sessions.
Participating by setting up your own virtual reading:

You are also welcome to set up your own virtual guest reading also through Zoom or Google Meet (some schools use other virtual options). I realize some 4-H groups and FFA Chapters may need to get creative to participate, but we hope you have fun and teach others about agriculture by reading!
