Two from College of Veterinary Medicine Receive OCAST Awards

Two faculty from Oklahoma State University's College of Veterinary Medicine were among 29 health related projects to receive a share of $1.24 million in funding from the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST). Drs. Veronique Lacombe and Lin Liu, both with the college's Department of Physiological Sciences, will have their respective research projects funded.
Veronique Lacombe, DVM, Ph.D., DACVIM, DECEIM, is a professor who leads the veterinary college's Comparative Metabolism Laboratory. Her OCAST funding will be used to investigate the sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase pump as a major regulator of glucose metabolism, a novel target for diabetic patients.
Lin Liu, Ph.D., is a Regents professor and the Lundberg-Kienlen Endowed Chair in Biomedical Sciences who leads the Oklahoma Center for Respiratory and Infectious Diseases. His OCAST award will fund research into the role of Tankryase 2 in lung innate immunity.
