AEM Releases September 2020 Ag Equipment Sales Numbers

Mon, 12 Oct 2020 16:36:46 CDT

AEM Releases September 2020 Ag Equipment Sales Numbers All segments of ag equipment, small to large, grew in September 2020 continuing a positive trend for the year according to the latest data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

U.S. total farm tractor sales rose 21.6 percent in September compared to 2019 while U.S. self-propelled combine sales grew 8.2 percent. Four-wheel-drive units grew for the second month in a row in the U.S. in September, up 21.4 percent to 374 units, cutting the year-to-date deficit almost in half to -4.7 percent. 100+hp also climbed in September, up 7 percent, bringing big units closer to breaking even for the year, now down only 1.8 percent. Total YTD farm tractors out the door are up 14.7 percent in 2020, while combines are now up 4.3 percent on the year.

For Canada, September tractor sales grew across all segments as well, leading to an overall gain in tractor sales of 25.1 percent for the month and 8.9 percent YTD. Self-propelled combines grew 9.5 percent for the month, while YTD unit sales remain 9.4 percent being their 2019 pace.

“Overall tractor sales continue to be driven by small tractors, but we are also starting to see some improvement in larger horsepower and 4WD tractors,” said Curt Blades, Senior Vice President of Ag Services at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. “With all tractor and combine segments showing month-to-month growth in September, we’re cautiously optimistic that this year may end up strong despite all of the head winds in the market.”

AEM is the North America-based international trade group representing off-road equipment manufacturers and suppliers with more than 1,000 companies and more than 200 product lines in the agriculture and construction-related industry sectors worldwide. The equipment manufacturing industry in the United States supports 2.8 million jobs and contributes roughly $288 billion to the economy every year.

AEM continues to lead the industry’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is working closely with state and federal officials to help keep equipment manufacturing in America strong and ensure the nation’s economic resilience. AEM has also called for bold action from Congress and federal agencies, including continued federal designation deeming equipment manufacturers and their employees, suppliers, and distributors as “essential” and additional support to ensure small and medium-sized equipment manufacturers have access to the cash they need to keep operations going.
