On November 16, 2020, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is hosting a virtual Public Meeting on the "Potential Approach for Ranking of Antimicrobial Drugs According to Their Importance in Human Medicine: A Risk Management Tool for Antimicrobial Animal Drugs". The public meeting is an important step in the agency's efforts to gather information and public feedback on a potential revised process proposed by FDA on ranking antimicrobial drugs by their importance for human medicine and the proposed ranked list of antimicrobial drugs.
NCBA will be collaborating with the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the National Milk Producer's Federation to file joint written comments on the FDA concept paper and submitting our comments to the Federal Register Docket. The ranking of antimicrobial drugs by their human medical importance plays a role in guiding FDA's activities related to managing antimicrobial resistance risks with antimicrobial drug use in animals.
