Senator Lankford Opposes Partisan Senate Budget Resolution

Fri, 05 Feb 2021 05:44:03 CST

Senator Lankford Opposes Partisan Senate Budget Resolution Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today opposed the Senate Budget Resolution to be used by Senate Democrats as a step toward passing President Biden's proposed $1.9 trillion COVID spending bill. Lankford has been outspoken that Americans are hurting, but Congress should focus on targeted relief to Americans who need it most. Lankford spoke on the Senate floor on Wednesday to address that Congress recently passed COVID relief, which billions have not been allocated yet, including to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Institutes for Health (NIH).

"Congress passed five bipartisan COVID relief packages in the last year; but, now President Biden and the Democrats in Congress are trying to ram through a huge wish list on the American people with no bipartisan support. There is no reason we cannot come together again to address the real issues still facing Americans and ensure we provide targeted relief to those who need it most. The COVID funding package passed in December hasn't even been distributed yet. We are in a pandemic, but adding more and more debt without a plan makes a bad situation worse."

The Senate Budget Resolution included several hours of voting on amendments, two introduced by Lankford. Lankford's amendment to protect small businesses from tax hikes and was adopted by a vote of 100-0. Lankford also offered an amendment that would give houses of worship equal treatment to serve their community during the pandemic as secular organizations and was adopted by a vote of 51-49.
